Today in memorable opening paragraphs

mobwomen's world

This isn’t an image I dug up to make my blog look more interesting, it’s actually the opening paragraph of Woman’s World by Graham Rawle. The novel is comprised of clipped words, numbers and images from women’s magazines but it actually tells its own story. It must have taken Rawle a bajillion years to compose.

The typography changes, ransom note style, throughout the novel and even the page numbers are painstakingly clipped from elsewhere.

I’m not sure how I’ll go reading this. I’ve had it on my to read list since August, when I received it as a birthday gift from my friend Kit. It seems part graphic experiment, part treatise and part metafiction. So it’ll probably be absolutely fantastic. Has anyone read it?
